Plato’s World

A Journey in Search of True Reality

A famous Greek philosopher who lived from 427 to 347 B.C., one of Plato's teachers was Socrates. He was also known as a founding theorist of Western philosophy.
The school he founded, called the Academy, was the world's first university and it is where many great thinkers including Aristotle studied. Among his important thoughts is his theory of Forms: he said that what we see in this world are nothing but reflections upon true reality--like looking into a mirror backwards.
In his book The Republic, Plato goes over his ideas about a just society and philosopher kings. In today's philosophy this thought still holds strong. It is also one of the documents responsible for shaping elementary education as we know it today.
